Most of the images shown on this site were captured on large format 4x5 negatives using traditional equipment and film. The camera and film I use are very similar to the equipment used by such photographic giants as Edward Weston and Ansel Adams. In the field, where most of these photographs were taken, I use a Toyo 4X5 field camera, Schneider and Rodenstock lenses and a wooden Ries tripod. The majority of the images were captured on Kodak Tri-X or Ilford FP5 film and developed in T-Max developer. Lately I have been shooting with Polaroid Type 55PN film which produces both a positive and a negative. A small number of the photographs were taken with a Mamiya 7 medium format camera using black and white film.
Although I use film to capture the image the remainder of the process is digital. I scan the negative with an Epson 1680 flatbed scanner, adjust the image in Photoshop and print the image on an Epson 4800 inkjet printer using archival Ultra-Chrome inks on heavy 100% rag art paper from Germany. This workflow and these materials produce photographs which, in my opinion, not only artistically surpass traditional silver-based prints, but also have a life that will last several generations.
Images are available matted or matted and framed. All mounting and matting materials are acid free. I use only high quality Nielson Bainbridge aluminum frames.
The process for selecting and purchasing a photograph can be complicated due to all the options available. I encourage you to email us to discuss any questions you may have. Our standard framed photographs are reasonably priced and range from $85 for smaller sizes to $125 for larger sizes. However we can print any size you wish (up to the limits of our equipment) and mat and frame in any style you desire.
