Western Oklahoma is an unlikely place to find a large-format, fine art photographer. Some would describe the scenery here as spectacularly unspectacular. However I believe that good images are all around us, hiding in the landscape, no matter where we live. Like timid creatures, they sometimes appear when you least expect them to. And at other times they have to be tracked down and coaxed into existence. But they're always there around us.
I first encountered photography in my high school's photo club -- hooked the first time I watched an image slowly materialize on a piece of paper in a tray of chemicals. In the forty years since then I've continued to expand my interest in photography, deepen my technical expertise and (hopefully) increase my artistic sensibilities. Much of my photography nowadays is concentrated on large-format black-and-white art images. My images have won numerous awards, been published in national magazines and have been featured in exhibits in the Oklahoma State Capital and art galleries in my area.
Although the making of art and images is a large part of my life, I don't have any ponderous pronouncements to make about my personal philosophy of art. I just take photographs of the things that interest and move me and hope the images will speak to you as well.
My wife, Melba, and I divide our time between our hometown of Alva, Oklahoma and South Fork, Colorado, where we own a rustic cabin. The majority of my images are drawn from these two areas.
